Help Support Access to Nutritious Meals for Young Children!
ECEC is urging child care providers to take action to show their support for the reauthorization of the Child and Adult Care Food Program in Congress this year.
CACFP is a vital program to providers, serving more than two million children in child care settings each day. We need to get the message out from hometowns about the importance of nutritious meals in child care, in this economy and every day.
CACFP Action Kit! That's why ECEC has created the CACFP Action Kit! We encourage you to tailor our CACFP Action Kit to include the variety of action steps that make the most sense for your organization.
Ask Your Officials to Support Nutritious Meals for Children! Congress is back in session and beginning to turn their attention to several pieces of legislation. One of the most important for child care and early learning providers is the Child Nutrition Act. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Representative Paul Tonko (D-NY 21) have introduced legislation that would take a big step forward in improving access to nutritious meals in child care. But we need your help! Take action to support the legislation!
States Beginning to Plan Advocacy Days
The start of the new year also means the reconvening of many state legislatures. With over thirty states now in regular session, many are convening to re-evaluate their budgets for the current fiscal year due to larger than expected revenue shortfalls.
Many state advocates are already planning and organizing advocacy days. These are good opportunities for providers like you to make elected officals and their staff aware of everyday program realities.
If you’d like us to include your statewide child care and early learning advocacy day in a future issue, contact Jennifer McGuire at jmcguire@ececonsortium.org
Tell Us Your Stories about How the Economy is Affecting Your Programs and Families
Families across the country continue to struggle in this economy. ECEC needs stories from real communities to make sure that decision-makers in the states and on Capitol Hill understand that child care is a critical part of this country's economic infrastructure and that parents can’t work without child care! Tell us your stories now and share with us what you're experiencing!
